Why The Camel Project?
It seems we are losing a generation of leaders and innovators. It may be an unintended side effect of our current institutions and mindset. Status quo and regression seem to be a safe, structured neat little box format for learning and education. The problem is, many students are being left behind or do not fit into the box, creating a growing group of at-risk students. Even worse are the labels and disenfranchised students left with little or no choices. Most cannot conform to standards they had no say, ability or understanding. These factors lead to frustration, hopelessness, depression, drug abuse, bullying, and violence.
How do I know? Because that is my story as told in my book Not All Camels Are In The Desert. Camel was my nickname growing up. It was not a term of endearment. The name Camel Project is to show it is only a negative in my life if I allow it to be. We cannot control others words and behaviors. It is critical we learn how to best react to others words and behaviors.
